Reasons to visit
Inverness and its surrounding area is steeped in history and no trip to would be complete without a visit to Loch Ness, the largest freshwater loch in the British Isles and home to the elusive 'Nessie'. Cruise on the loch and explore the ruins of Urquhart Castle which stands proudly on its banks, enjoying magnificent views of the surrounding area.
From Clava Cairns to Culloden Battlefield and Inverness Castle with its new viewpoint overlooking the city, you'll never be short of opportunities to connect with the past.
Stroll along the banks of the River Ness and discover the city's fine bars and restaurants or head to the Victorian Market or Eastgate Shopping Centre for a bit of retail therapy.
The Moray Firth is teeming with wildlife and, when the tide is right, local dolphins are often seen swimming close to shore at Chanonry Point on the Black Isle.
The Victorian seaside resort of Nairn is a short drive away and the surrounding countryside plays host to a number of distilleries where you can discover the secrets of Scotland's national drink.
