It’s official, Scotland is a global superstar when it comes
to mountain biking, and there’s a whole network of dedicated and
wild trails to explore. Many of our hostels are set in key mountain
biking country, and provide practical facilities that help you take
care of, and store, your bike.
Broadmeadows and Minnigaff
The best known
Scottish mountain biking centres are the 7stanes across Southern
Scotland. The flagship centre Glentress, near Peebles, now attracts
over 250,000 riders every year – keen to explore the miles of
fun-park style features and big downhills that the centre packs in.
Other 7stanes centres include Glentrool, Kirroughtree, Dalbeattie,
Ae, Newcastleton and Innerleithen, all of which offer an exciting
blend of tracks for beginners through to experienced extreme
downhill mountain bikers.
Glen Nevis
There’s a diverse range of
trails surrounding the Glen Nevis area including the Witches Trails
and Aonach Mar natural trails which provide well over 45km of
trails and are among the most popular in the country. With its
wonderful mix of natural and man-made trails set against a stunning
mountain backdrop, Glen Nevis is a biker’s paradise.
Carbisdale Castle
Just up the coast from
our Carbisdale Castle hostel is the mountain biking trails at
Golspie. The 22km of trails head up from Golspie town centre to the
stunning views out over the Dornoch Firth from the top of Beinn a’
Bhragaidh. Experience of riding tougher red and black trails is
required to complete the full route, but the easier blue section is
pretty exciting as well, with plenty of twisty single-track, big
berms and fast downhill sections. More info:

which is great as an introduction to mountain biking, to the black
grade trail which is a challenging trail full of thrilling
features, challenging experienced mountain bikers.
