Follow in the footsteps of some of Scotland’s
great historical figures such as Rob Roy McGregor and Robert the
Bruce along Scotland’s first long-distance footpath. The ninety
five miles of fascinating, challenging walking provides the unique
chance to experience the gradual change in scenery and terrain from
the gentle, rolling hills and valleys in the south to the more
rugged and mountainous north.
The group will meet at Milngavie just outside
Glasgow on day one, ready to embark upon a 5 day-long trek of the
West Highland Way. Setting off on day one, the group will advance
through Mugdock Country Park and rolling farmland before reaching
their first destination of Rowardennan Hostel, idyllically situated
on the banks of Loch Lomond. The group will continue along the Way
on an old military road first built in the 17th century
to help quell rebellious Scottish clans until they reach Tyndrum
which marks the halfway point. From Tyndrum to the Black Rock
Cottage the group continue to follow the old military road, passing
many good viewpoints and skirting the wilds of Rannoch Moor.
Woodland goats and deer may be seen and those with sharp eyes might
be lucky enough to spot an eagle soaring high over the steep
slopes. On the penultimate day the group walks from Black Rock
Cottage over the devil’s Staircase to Kinlochleven. The Way is
finally completed from Kinlochleven to Fort William via Glen Nevis
– time to celebrate!
All meals and baggage transfers are included,
making your trip completely hassle free.
